Have you ever heard of Imposter Syndrome? I’m siting Mirriam-Webster on this one for clarity.
imposter syndrome
: a psychological condition that is characterized by persistent doubt concerning one's abilities or accomplishments accompanied by the fear of being exposed as a fraud despite evidence of one's ongoing success
Does this sound familiar? Is confidence something that seems to be out of reach for you? While this may have been started with someone else in your environment impacting this and ensuring you are in this state, there comes a point where you will recognize the only one who can change this for you……….is you. Whether someone else or you are the barrier…… consider telling yourself out loud you are skilled. Tell yourself you are the real deal. Tell yourself you are talented and capable. Raise your vibration with non violence(ahimsa) and love in words, actions/behaviours. It will be supportive and nourishing for you and will support you letting go of this diabolical process of Imposter Syndrome. Imagine the down regulation of your nervous system and the peace you will stumble upon.
Believe you me, EVERYONE has these moments or feelings at some point in their lives. No one is immune. Even the ones who are the most arrogant and behave as if they know everything. Especially arrogance……… masking the true root of the issue. Often the ones who are super confident, knowledgeable and wise say very little(one day I will learn from my grandfather’s ways, he would respond often with short affirming sounds.... hmmmm.......mmmmm…….nothing more….. as I get older I recognize how brilliant he was by saying very little and observing those around him). Often the ones who have aged wisdom spend most of their time observing and listening……. not speaking. That’s been my lived experience so far. Still learning……
We have many examples across the planet of people who are wise and say what needs to be said and nothing more with ease of who they are and what they contribute in this life. For me it was when I met the Dalai Llama..... Sage advice and simple yet applicable universally.
I used to laugh when I would see my grandfathers sitting quietly; both of them were this way. One an original teamster that broke, trained and drove horses and then drove truck when progress changed us into motorized vehicles. (He was also a deeply rooted Mason-Level 33 and very proud of his responsibilities.) My other grandfather, PaPere taught the French from France how to dogfight in WWII. (He was a Knights of Columbus.) He was a skilled bush pilot. And he taught the French Air Force Pilots how to dog fight. He almost got Court Marshalled for flying his plane upside down under the Jacque Cartier Bridge that tethers Montreal to the rest of the province of Quebec on a dare. Someone got his call sign and reported him He was a self reflective wildman. Talk about Imposter Syndrome…… Imagine that kind of military disturbance/consequence and what that could do to your confidence. It seemed like he never wavered but this I will likely never know for sure. In those days people did not talk openly about this kind of thing. He was my childhood elder that I adored and we had the adrenaline thing in common He was a very patient man with me.
Growing up, people would be chattering or angsty about a subject matter and again my grandfathers would listen and sometimes just say…… hm….. barely a sound out of them. So wise. …… I hear ya, Grandpa Tomson & PaPere….
When the student is ready the teachings will begin. Has this question about Imposter Syndrome been easily answered by you intuitively without hesitation? Do you find yourself asking whether you are an imposter?
