Good morning..... It's been a minute or two...... While I just returned from a wonderful visit with the very missed crowd(Lise(&Jeff), Ingrid, Betty(& Bryan), Jess, Sydnee, Lija and more in Kimberley, BC...... I am excited about what's coming this Summer.
Broken Squirrel Wellness is a wonderful mixed modality healing space for rehabilitation, reconnection and functional synergy(That is an homage to my school, thanks Susi, Mona & Kirsten). The best part is moving into this space and doing what I do was my parents dream(and mine). We planned it for as long as I can remember. Sadly, it was not legal for them to practice together in their lifetime. My father tried to introduce this in the 80s as a teacher of medical student residents in the southern United States. There was heavy push back and told it was not allowed. It was a divisive time in health care. Thankfully, we are progressing in this arena.
Fast forward to 2025 in a post COVID world and things are very different now. It takes courage to step out of the common. The owners of Broken Squirrel Wellness and all of the practitioners who have joined in are included in this compliment. In my childhood I witnessed many who tried to do this including my own father and some were ostracized from both sides. That did not slow him down thankfully. Nor did it the others they rebuilt another way. Pathfinders and trailblazers are a strong breed. I come from a long line of trailblazers as my mother did this in the 90s with traditional Chinese Medicine. She had classmates arrested for treating patients without a licence to limit the impact of Chinese Medicine. Look at how far we have come..... I myself was treated by 1st generation landed immigrant doctors of Chinese Medicine in Vancouver in the 90s. It saved my life. These are the people who taught my mother. She had training in Allopathic medicine and Chinese Medicine. She saw the value of all of it together. Together my parents dreamed of what I will be a part of starting in June this year. My mother did not live long enough to witness this with her own eyes. My father has and is super proud of where i am going and where this is all going.
I am very grateful for this space and opportunity to be able to share clients/patients with many other modalities both licensed and certified in the coming months and years. This space is where East meets West and the synergistic power of full care becomes a reality. I am beyond excited to move through the next year and beyond.
My classes at Broken Squirrel Wellness will be hosted THURSDAYS @ 12Noon for Chair Yoga(60 min), FRIDAYS Yoga Therapy Group Session(75 min) 2pm and SUNDAYS Yoga Therapy Group Session(75 min) 12Noon. All starting June 5th.
The continued support of the Comox Community Centre has been very encouraging and enlightening. Thanks Robyn and Justin for your continued belief in the forefront of healing and prevention. Summertime is a little quieter. Regardless, I will host a group Restorative Yoga Therapy 4:30pm Tuesday and 7:30am Wednesdays. The early morning is to still get your movement in with the beautiful sunshine of Summer so you do not miss a beat outside.
The Studio Comox Valley on 10th is where I practice and teach hot yoga. This work has been a haven for me throughout my life when faced with crisis and major injury such as major brain injury and herniations through my Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar spine. I continue to enjoy teaching here and growing in my own practice as work with the body that shows up now in my 50s.
